This page is the central compliance summary for OK Military Search (operating at okmilitarysearch.com). It works together with our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Refund Policy. By submitting a request through this website, you acknowledge and agree to the points described below.

Read this first. The result we provide is a U.S. Department of Defense active-duty status verification. It is not a background check and not a consumer report. It may not be used to make decisions about credit, insurance, employment, housing, or tenant screening. See Section 1 below.

1. Not a Consumer Reporting Agency — Not an FCRA Consumer Report

OK Military Search is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. The military active-duty status verification we provide is not a "consumer report" under the FCRA.

You may not use the verification we provide, in whole or in part, as a factor in establishing any individual's eligibility for:

  • credit or a loan;
  • insurance;
  • employment, promotion, reassignment, or retention as an employee;
  • housing, rental, or tenant screening;
  • or any other "permissible purpose" under the FCRA.

Our service exists for a narrow, lawful purpose: helping you complete a court-required Military Service Affidavit (also called an Affidavit of Non-Military Service) by obtaining the official Department of Defense active-duty status certificate. Using the result for any prohibited purpose violates these terms and may violate federal law.

2. No Legal Advice — We Are Not a Law Firm

OK Military Search is not a law firm, and we do not provide legal advice, legal representation, or legal opinions. Nothing on this website — including pages such as SCRA Information and our blog — constitutes legal advice or creates an attorney-client relationship.

All content is provided as general information only. Court procedures, default-judgment rules, and Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) requirements vary by jurisdiction and change over time. For advice about your specific situation, your filing, or your legal rights and obligations, consult a licensed attorney in the relevant state or court.

3. No Government Affiliation — The DoD Report Is Free From the Government

OK Military Search is a private service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC), the U.S. military, or any government agency.

The DoD's active-duty status report is available directly from the government for free at the official SCRA website: https://scra.dmdc.osd.mil. If you already have the individual's Social Security Number (SSN) or Date of Birth (DOB), you can run that search yourself at no cost.

What you pay us $22 for is the professional locating (skip-trace) service, the licensed investigative work, and the convenience of having the search run on your behalf — not for the government record itself, which the government does not charge for. Most of our customers come to us precisely because they lack the SSN or DOB needed to use the free government tool. Learn more on our How It Works and About pages.

4. Licensed Investigator & Permissible Purpose (GLBA / DPPA)

The locating work behind your search is performed by a licensed private investigator (Smoking Gun Investigations, LLC, smokinggunpi.com) using professional skip-trace tools.

Location of an individual's SSN or DOB is undertaken only for permissible purposes — for example, use in connection with litigation, service of process, or compliance with the SCRA — consistent with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), the Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA), and other applicable law.

By submitting a request, you represent that you are seeking the active-duty status verification for such a permissible purpose and not for any purpose prohibited by law or by Section 1 of this disclaimer. We reserve the right to decline or refuse any request.

5. Accuracy & DoD Data Limitations

The active-duty status determination comes from the DoD/DMDC database. That data has important limits you should understand:

  • It reflects active-duty service from September 30, 1985 to the present, plus certain early-notification (call-up) statuses.
  • It establishes the individual's active-duty status on the date the query is run; it does not, by itself, resolve every nuance of SCRA eligibility.
  • Accuracy depends on correct identification of the individual. A result is only as reliable as the SSN, DOB, and name matched to that person.

We take care to identify the correct individual, but we cannot warrant that any record is complete, current, or free of error, and we are not responsible for errors in the underlying government database. The certificate speaks for itself as to its date and scope. See our FAQ for common questions about what the certificate does and does not show.

6. No Guaranteed Outcome

We do not guarantee any particular result. In particular, we do not guarantee that a search will return a specific active-duty status, that the located identifiers will be correct in every case, that any court will accept the affidavit or certificate, or that a default judgment will be entered. Whether a court accepts your filing is a matter for that court.

Our commitment is to perform the locating work and run the official DoD check diligently and lawfully — not to produce a predetermined answer.

7. Privacy & Security of Personal Information

SSNs and other personal information are collected and handled securely and are used only to perform the requested search. For full details on what we collect, how we use it, and how long we keep it, see our Privacy Policy.

8. Refund — No Result, No Charge

$22 per defendant

One flat fee for each defendant you list.

If we cannot provide an active-duty status certificate for your request, your $22 is fully refunded — no result, no charge. Full details are in our Refund Policy and Pricing.
