About the service

What exactly do you provide?

We obtain the official U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) active-duty status certificate for a person you need to verify. When you don’t have that person’s date of birth or Social Security number — which the DoD system requires — our licensed private investigator locates it first.

What is a Military Service Affidavit?

It’s a sworn statement, required by many courts before entering a default judgment, attesting whether the defendant is in military service. It’s also called an Affidavit of Non-Military Service. The DoD certificate is the evidence that supports it. Learn more on our affidavit guide.

Why do courts require this?

The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) protects active-duty servicemembers from default judgments entered without their knowledge. Courts require proof of military status before proceeding. See our SCRA overview.

What if I don’t have the person’s SSN or date of birth?

That’s exactly what we solve. Our licensed investigator locates the missing identifier using professional skip-trace tools, then runs the official check. You only need to provide a name and whatever details you have.

Legal & privacy

Is this a background check or consumer report?

No. We provide military active-duty status verification only. It is not a “consumer report” and we are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The result may not be used to decide eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing, or any other FCRA purpose.

Are you affiliated with the government or the military?

No. OK Military Search is a private service. The DoD active-duty report is available free directly from the government at scra.dmdc.osd.mil if you already have the SSN or date of birth. You’re paying us for the investigative work to find that identifier and obtain the certificate for you.

Is it legal to locate someone’s SSN or date of birth?

Yes, when done by a licensed investigator for a permissible purpose such as a legal proceeding or anticipated litigation. By submitting a request you confirm you have such a purpose. We don’t provide this information to you — it’s used only to run the official check.

How is my data protected?

We collect only what’s needed to perform the search, transmit it securely, restrict access, and don’t sell it. See our Privacy Policy.

Is this legal advice?

No. We’re not a law firm and nothing we provide is legal advice. If you need guidance on your case, consult a licensed attorney.

Coverage, pricing & results

Do you cover all 50 states?

Yes. We’re a nationwide service. The DoD active-duty database is federal, so we can verify status for matters in any state.

How much does it cost?

A flat $22 per defendant. See pricing.

What if you can’t find the person?

No result, no charge. If we can’t provide a certificate, your $22 is fully refunded.

How long does it take?

Most requests are handled promptly after payment, though it depends on how readily the person can be located. Tell us about any court deadline and we’ll prioritize.

What does the certificate show?

It reports whether the person was on active duty on the date queried, based on DoD records. Active-duty data is available from September 30, 1985 to the present. It confirms active-duty status; it does not by itself resolve every SCRA-eligibility question.
