How Our Military Status Verification Works

From request to certificate — a licensed private investigator does the hard part when you don’t have the defendant’s date of birth or Social Security number.

The process, step by step

  1. You submit your request. Provide the person’s full name and any details you have — last known address, approximate age, prior employers, or relatives. More detail helps our investigator confirm the correct individual.
  2. You pay the flat $22 fee. One price covers each defendant you list. If we can’t deliver a certificate, you’re refunded in full.
  3. A licensed private investigator locates the missing identifier. Using professional skip-trace databases, the investigator finds the date of birth or Social Security number required to run the official check.
  4. We run the official DoD active-duty check. The investigator queries the Department of Defense (DMDC) SCRA system to determine active-duty status on the relevant date.
  5. You receive your certificate by email. The official active-duty status certificate is emailed directly to you, ready to support your Military Service Affidavit.

What you’ll need to provide

At minimum, we need the full name of the person you’re verifying and your case information. The following details improve our chances of locating the right person quickly:

  • Last known address (current or past)
  • Approximate age or date-of-birth range
  • Prior employers, relatives, or associates
  • Any prior names or aliases

You don’t need the SSN or DOB — finding it is our job.

How long does it take?

Most searches are completed promptly after payment, but turnaround varies with how much identifying information is available and how easily the person can be located. If we anticipate a delay, we’ll keep you informed. If you have a court deadline, tell us in your request or call us so we can prioritize appropriately.

Where the certificate comes from

The active-duty status certificate is produced by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) through its Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC). That official report is available directly from the government, free of charge, at scra.dmdc.osd.mil — but only if you already have the person’s SSN or date of birth. Our fee covers the professional investigative work to locate that missing identifier and the convenience of having a licensed investigator obtain the certificate for you.

This service is not a consumer reporting agency and the certificate is not a “consumer report” under the FCRA; it may not be used for credit, insurance, employment, or tenant screening.
